Thanks to a generous donor, Michigan RID awards an annual $500 scholarship to advance an individual's career. Eligible applicants include student and working interpreters, deaf and hearing, who have not received the award before.
The Dr Brian D McCartney Scholarship is named for the first Deaf superintendent of the Michigan School for the Deaf, who held the position from 1991 through 1997. It is awarded in his memory.
This scholarship was temporarily on hold until we regained contact with its annual donor. Michigan RID has had two other scholarships which are indefinitely on hold, the Doris Watkins Workshop Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award. These latter two scholarships will resume being awarded if a long-term independent funding source is secured. To make a donation pledge, send an email to publications@michiganrid.org.
Applications for the Dr Brian D McCartney Scholarship are open now through May 17, 2025. This scholarship will be awarded to one applicant.
